Author Guidelines

Journal of Arrhythmology (hereafter Journal) is the official journal of the All-Russian Scientific Society of Specialists in Clinical Electrophysiology, Arrhythmology, and Pacing. The main goal of the journal is to provide readers with a modern state of problems in the field of cardiac arrhythmias, electrophysiology, and pacing. Clinical research, literature reviews and meta-analysis, clinical cases, guidelines (to help practitioners), letters to the editors, and news can be published in the Journal.

Clinical trials submitted for consideration in the Journal must meet with CONSORT standards (http://www.consort-statement.org), observational studies with STROBE standards (http://www.strobe-statement.org), literature reviews and meta-analysis with PRISMA standards (http://www.prisma-statement.org), diagnostic approaches with STARD standards (http://www.stard-statement.org).

Manuscripts that do not meet with the authors' guidelines (see below) will be returned to the authors for the improvement.

ARTICLE CATEGORIES

Clinical research.  Clinical studies can be conducted both on healthy individuals and animals (experimental studies) and on patients. Both case series and large-scale studies can be published in this category. Articles are usually limited to 20,000-40,000 characters with spaces (including references), up to 4 figures and 4 tables (total number of figures and tables should not exceed 8) and up to 50 references. The abstract should be structured and contain 5 items (Aim, Methods, Results, Conclusion, Key words) and 250-300 words.

Reviews. The Journal publishes systematic reviews and meta-analysis whose purpose is to analyze and critically evaluate research in this area. The text should not exceed 30,000-50,000 characters with spaces, 5 figures, 5 tables (total number of figures and tables should not exceed 10) and contain up to 150 references. The abstract should be short, unstructured, contain 1-2 detailed sentences, up to 250 words, and up to 10 key words. 

Clinical Cases. This category is intended for brief reports of rare clinical cases and complex diagnostic problems. The text should contain 10,000-30,000 characters with spaces, include up to 30 references, 5 figures and/or tables. The abstract should be short, unstructured, contain 1-2 detailed sentences, up to 250 words, and up to 10 key words. 

To help practitioners. In this category guidelines, manual for the use of certain methods of examination, treatment of various categories of patients are published.

Letters to the Editors. In this category, comments and criticisms of articles published in the Journal, or messages to readers about current problems of arrhythmology and related disciplines that are currently of the greatest scientific interest, can be published. The text of letters should not exceed 10,000-30,000 characters with spaces. The abstract should be short, unstructured, contain 1-2 detailed sentences, up to 250 words, and up to 10 key words, up to 10 references, including a link to the original article, if necessary.

Images. This category is intended for the publication of rare, interesting, remarkable clinical images (electrocardiograms, echocardiograms, X-ray images, results of pathomorphological studies, etc.). The volume of the article should be up to 5000 characters, not contain a list of references. Article abstract should be unstructured, consist of 1-2 extended sentences, and contain up to 10 key words. Image quality must be at least 825 dots horizontally.

 

News. Announcements of scientific and educational events on cardiology and cardiac arrhythmias, reports on their conduct, information on anniversaries are published in the News category.

SUBMISSION

REGISTRATION ON THE WEBSITE

All articles in the Journal are submitted electronically by any of the authors. Usually, it is the corresponding author. To submit, you must register on the website, enter the full name, indicate the specialization and workplace (institution).

STEP 1. ARTICLE REQUIREMENTS

Before proceeding with the electronic submission of the article, it is necessary to familiarize yourself with the requirements for the article and confirm that the indicated points are fulfilled in your manuscript.

STEP 2. ARTICLE TEXT

In the file Text of the article, it is necessary to remove personal data (names of authors and names of institutions). The manuscript title, abstract and keywords, list of abbreviations, text, list of references, tables, and figures are left. The text and volume of the manuscript must meet with the Authors Guidelines. The text should be typed with one and a half line spacing; use a font size of 12 points; Times New Roman style; margins of 2 cm on each side; italics are used for emphasis, not underscores (except for Internet addresses); all figures, graphs, and tables should be located at the end of the document.

An abstract is written by the requirements indicated above; 5 to 10 key words are given, with a small letter, separated by semicolons. Abstract and key words should be translated into English.

List of abbreviations. The list of abbreviations is written in alphabetical order. Only those abbreviations are used that are used in the text 3 or more times. A separate list of abbreviations for the abstract is not given, however, in the text of the abstract abbreviations are allowed for terms that are used 2 or more times.

The text of the original articles should contain the following sections:

Introduction. The introduction briefly describes the current state of the problem under consideration with links to the most important publications (preferably over the past 10 years), provides a review confirming the relevance of the work. The introduction ends with the formation of the goals and objectives of the study and the rationale for the need to perform work.

Methods. In this section, a thorough description of the methods used in the work is necessary. The above description of the working methods should be sufficient for a general understanding of the research progress. It is necessary to give quantitative and qualitative characteristics of the subjects. If equipment and / or new drugs are mentioned, then the name of the manufacturer's company and the country where it is located should be indicated in brackets. Information should be provided on the observance of ethical requirements for studies involving humans and animals. The section also needs to provide a detailed description of the methods of statistical data analysis.

Results. The results should be presented in a logical sequence. The results presented in the illustrative materials do not need to be duplicated in the text of the article. All that is needed is an indication of the figure and / or table. Measurement values must meet with the International System of Units (ISU), except for the dimension of quantities traditionally measured in other systems.

Discussion. A discussion of the results of the study is recommended to be allocated in a separate section. In this section, it is necessary to indicate new and important scientific aspects of the results of your research and correlate them with the results of already published works. It is necessary to bring the correlation of the obtained data to the initially formulated goals and objectives of the study, as well as to suggest possible ways of applying the obtained data.

Conclusion. The conclusion should be comprehensive and include brief conclusions based on the results and reasonable recommendations.

References. References are compiled according to the guidelines below.

Systematic reviews and meta-analysis must meet with the guidelines set out in generally accepted manuals (PRISMA, CONSORT, etc.).

STEP 3. METADATA

In the metadata section, information about the authors, the full title of the manuscript, and annotation are filled out. All information that is entered in the metadata section must exactly correspond to the information specified in the text of the article and the title page.

Authors information. In the given empty cells, the name of the authors, their email addresses, workplace (institution), brief information about the author, and the ORCID ID are written. If the author or co-author works in several institutions, the organization based on which this work was carried out is given.

Institution. In this empty cell, you must enter the full and correct name of the institution. You can use the abbreviations FSBI, SBGEI, etc., then the name is given in quotation marks, the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, the city. The country is indicated in a separate cell. For example, FSBI “Almazov National Medical Research Center» Ministry of Health of Russian Federation, Saint-Petersburg.

Briefly about yourself / authors. In this section, brief information about the authors is written. The work position, academic rank, and/or degree, if any, is given. Common abbreviations are allowed: j.r., s.r., Ph.D., DSc, prof., corresponding member RAS and others. The names of departments / subsections / laboratories / institutes are not abbreviated.

The order of authors. The order of authors on the website is indicated in the same order as in the original manuscript. The following order of authors is recommended: the first author is the direct executor of the work, then the authors are indicated in the order of importance of the contribution made to the work (from greater to lesser), the last is information about the chief of the work. The author responsible for the correspondence puts a “dot in the circle” after entering information about himself.

Title of the manuscript. The title of the manuscript should be informative, concise (no more than 150-200 characters), reflecting the content of the work. Abbreviations are not allowed in the title of the manuscript.

Abstract. The abstract should be prepared by the guidelines given above, and must exactly correspond to the annotation indicated in the text of the manuscript.

Key words. Key words must meet with the guidelines given above and exactly match those specified in the text of the manuscript.

Supporting organizations. In this section, it is necessary to list the organizations and / or people providing financial or other support that contributed to the publication of the article.

References. References are compiled in Vancouver Style. For each reference, full information should be provided, including the title of the article, the abbreviated or full name of the journal, and page numbers including this article. The first 3 authors should be listed and then “et al.”. When quoting articles from books, the output data is indicated: surname, initials, the title of the article, name of the book, place of publication, year of publication, page (from and to). References appear in Arabic numerals in square brackets and are numbered in citation order (not in alphabetical). For example, [1] or [1, 2]. If the work is cited in the text of the manuscript, then the initials and surname of the first author must be indicated, then et al., and in parentheses is the year of publication. For example, J. Kautzner et al. (2016). For all Russian-language references, it is necessary to provide the actual Russian-language reference, as well as translation or transliteration. Then indicate in parentheses (In Russ.). If there is no official transliteration and translation of the title of the article, free semantic translation is allowed. An example is given below.

STEP 4. ADDITIONAL DATA

In the additional data section, you need to upload a cover letter, title page, figures, and tables to the site as a separate file.

Cover letter. A cover letter must be attached to the manuscript, which is written in the name of the chief editors of the Journal. The cover letter should be executed on one or two sheets, preferably on the official letterhead of the institution, signed by the head of work, and certified with the seal of the institution. The cover letter should contain general information and include the following mandatory items:

1. The manuscript is not under consideration in another journal and has not been previously published;

2. The manuscript contains a full disclosure of the conflict of interest;

3. All authors read and approved the manuscript;

4. The author(s) are responsible for the accuracy of the materials presented in the manuscript;

5. Contact information of the author responsible for correspondence.

6. Authors contribution. It is necessary to provide information about at what stage of writing the manuscript each of the authors took part.

You need to scan the cover letter and attach it to the additional data section.

Title page. The title page provides the full and short title of the manuscript. The names of the authors are given. Then you should write the official and full names of the institutions in which the authors work. If the author works in several organizations, the one where the work was carried out is indicated. Then all the information about the author responsible for the correspondence (name, position, email address) and information about the authors with the position, place of work, ORCID is given. The title page ends with the title of the manuscript in English, transliteration of the names of the authors (and affiliations), and the names of institutions in English. Also in the title page should provide information on the funding of the work (if any), acknowledgment (if any), information about the conflict of interest.

Acknowledgments. This section should mention all the people who contributed or participated in the work, but do not meet the criteria for authorship; it should also indicate how they contributed. You must first obtain the consent of these people.

Funding. This section lists grants and sponsorship (if any). You must provide the grant number or the number of the grant agreement.

Conflict of interests. You must indicate that the document contains a full disclosure of the conflict of interest. Conflict of interest refers to the authors having possible relationships with industrial and financial organizations that could lead to a conflict of interest in connection with the content presented in the manuscript. It is advisable to list the sources of funding for the work. Conflict of interest should be indicated for each author. Non-financial interest (for example, personal or professional relationships, acquaintances, etc.) regarding issues and / or content discussed in the article should also be reflected in a conflict of interest. In the absence of a conflict of interest, the following should be noted: "The authors declared that there is no potential conflict of interest".

Tables and figures. Tables and figures provide visual information; they should be interesting and educational. Tables and figures are placed at the end of the text after the list of references with number and title. Notes (if necessary) and abbreviations in alphabetical order should be listed in the footnote below the table. All quantitative indicators should be verified and consistent with the information given in the text of the manuscript. Photos and drawings are submitted in electronic form in the format of JPG (Quality Score “High” or “Maximum”), PNG, TIFF with a resolution of at least 300 dpi with a size of at least 85 and not more than 170 mm in width. The inscriptions in the drawings are best placed on a separate layer. Graphs and charts are accepted in Excel, PowerPoint. The results shown in graphical form do not need to be duplicated in the text of the article. All that is needed is a link to the table, figure, etc., indicating the number of the visual element. The text must contain references to illustrative material, designated as table 1, figure 1, etc. If links to illustrative material are shown in brackets, then abbreviations are allowed. For example, (Fig. 1), (Tabl. 1).

If there are notes in the figures, then you need them in two versions: with and without overpicture notes.

If a figure and/or table is re-used from a previous publication, including those from previous publications of the authors, a permission from the publisher of the original publication must be obtained. The re-usage of figures/tables should be stated, and a link to the original source must be provided. When submitting an article to Journal of Arrhythmology, a copy of the publisher's permission should be attached as a separate file. The only exception is the re-used of figures/tables from "open access" publications; in this case, this fact should be reflected in the cover letter. An appropriate reference should be provided. Compliance with the ethics standards of re-using figures/tables is the responsibility of the authors. In case of non-compliance with these rules, the editorial board reserves the right to refuse to consider the submission and refuse to publish the article.

STEP 5. CONFIRMATION

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The manuscripts are accepted if has not been published or submitted for publication elsewhere.

  2. The materials should be prepared in Microsoft Word. There are no authors or institution information in it.

  3. Files with a cover letter, a title page, and additional data are prepared for uploading to the site.

  4. References are presented in full, drawn up by the Authors Guidelines, and do not contain duplicates. All references are indicated in the text of the article.

  5. The text is typed with one and a half line spacing; font size of 12 points is used; Times New Roman style margins of 2 cm on each side; Italics are used for emphasis, not underscores (except for Internet addresses); all figures, graphs, and tables are located at the end of the document.

  6. Internet links are provided as a complete URL.

  7. The text should follow the stylistic and bibliography requirements as stated in the Authors Guidelines.

  8. The authors agree to blind reviewing.

  9. Authors permit the processing and use of their data.
